Transmission Fluid Change & Maintenance
Almost every catastrophic transmission failure we see started as old, burnt fluid. Regular fluid service is the single most effective way to avoid a four-figure repair.
Transmission fluid lubricates, cools and actually transmits the power inside your gearbox. As it ages it oxidizes, loses friction properties and fills with microscopic clutch material. The result is heat, slipping and accelerated wear — long before you feel a symptom.
We offer both pan-drop services (fluid and filter, with a magnet and pan inspection that tells us how your unit is wearing) and full fluid exchanges that replace nearly all of the fluid including what sits in the torque converter and cooler. Which one is right depends on your vehicle, mileage and fluid condition — we will recommend honestly, and we will never pressure-flush a badly neglected unit where that could do more harm than good.
Crucially, we stock and use manufacturer-specification fluids: CVT fluid for CVTs, dual-clutch fluid for DCTs, the correct ATF for each automatic. The wrong fluid can destroy a healthy transmission in thousands of kilometres.
So-called lifetime fluid means the lifetime of the fluid, not your vehicle. For GTA driving — short trips, stop-and-go, hot summers and cold starts — we recommend service every 50,000–60,000 km, or every 30,000 km for towing and fleet use.

Fluid & Maintenance — common questions
How much does a transmission fluid change cost?
Typically $180–$350 depending on fluid type and quantity — CVT and European fluids cost more per litre. A full exchange runs somewhat higher than a pan drop. Either way, it is a small fraction of the cost of the repair it prevents.
Flush or fluid change — which do I need?
A pan drop replaces 40–60% of fluid and lets us inspect wear material; a full exchange replaces nearly everything. For healthy units we often recommend the exchange; for neglected high-mileage units a gentler staged approach is safer. We will look first, then advise.
Is 'lifetime' transmission fluid really lifetime?
No. Manufacturers define lifetime by warranty period, not by how long your vehicle should last. Every transmission engineer and rebuilder will tell you the same thing: fluid ages, and changing it on schedule dramatically extends transmission life.
