Differential, Driveline & Transfer Case
Power does not stop at the transmission. We rebuild and service differentials, transfer cases, driveshafts and axles for AWD, 4x4 and RWD vehicles across the GTA.
Whining differentials, clunking U-joints, leaking pinion seals, binding AWD couplers and transfer cases that grind between ranges — driveline problems are often misdiagnosed as transmission faults. As specialists in the entire powertrain, we test the whole system and fix the component that is actually worn.
We rebuild open, limited-slip and electronic-locking differentials, set up gear patterns to specification (the difference between a quiet diff and a comeback), service transfer cases in trucks and SUVs, and replace CV axles, wheel bearings, driveshafts and centre support bearings.
Differential and transfer case fluid services are quick, inexpensive and chronically neglected — especially on AWD crossovers where a seized coupler can cost thousands. If you tow or drive a 4x4 hard, put these on the same schedule as your transmission fluid.
How we do it
- 1
Driveline diagnosis
Road test, noise isolation and driveline play inspection — we confirm which component is at fault before quoting.
- 2
Rebuild or replace
Bearings, gears, clutch packs and seals rebuilt to spec, or quality replacement assemblies where more economical.
- 3
Proper setup
Gear backlash and contact pattern set to factory specification, correct fluids and friction modifiers installed.
Driveline & Differential — common questions
How do I know if it is my differential or my transmission?
Differential noise typically changes with vehicle speed and load (accelerating vs. coasting), while transmission noise often changes with gear or RPM. It takes an experienced ear — our diagnostic road test sorts it out quickly.
How often should differential fluid be changed?
Every 50,000–80,000 km for most vehicles, and more often with towing or off-road use. AWD transfer cases and couplers have their own intervals that are widely ignored — check your owner's manual or just ask us.
Do you work on trucks and commercial vehicles?
Yes — light- and medium-duty trucks, work vans and fleet vehicles are a big part of what we do, including differentials, transfer cases and heavy-duty transmission work.
