Clutch & Manual Transmission

From slipping clutches and chattering flywheels to crunching synchros and dual-clutch mechatronics, we handle every part of a manual or automated-manual driveline.

A clutch is a wear item, but how long it lasts depends heavily on how it is replaced. We install complete kits — disc, pressure plate and release bearing — resurface or replace the flywheel every time (skipping this causes chatter and early failure), and inspect the hydraulics, pilot bearing and rear main seal while everything is apart.

Inside the gearbox, we repair worn synchronizers, bearings and shift forks that cause crunching gear changes and popping out of gear. We also service dual-clutch transmissions (DCTs) — including Ford's PowerShift, VW/Audi DSG and Hyundai/Kia DCT units — which blend manual internals with computer-controlled clutches and have their own well-known failure patterns.

Performance upgrades are welcome: uprated clutch kits and short-throw shifters for drivers who ask more of their cars.

How we do it

  1. 1

    Assessment

Road test and hydraulic inspection to separate clutch wear from hydraulic or gearbox faults — they feel similar but cost very differently.

  2. 2

    Complete replacement

Full kit, flywheel service, new hydraulics where worn, and inspection of everything accessible while the gearbox is out.

  3. 3

    Gearbox internal work

Synchros, bearings and seals repaired on the bench with the same care as our automatic rebuilds.

Clutch & Manual — common questions

How much does a clutch replacement cost?

Most clutch jobs fall between $1,200 and $2,500 including flywheel service, depending on the vehicle. All-wheel-drive and dual-clutch vehicles run higher due to labour. We quote firm before starting.

How long does a clutch last?

Anywhere from 80,000 to 200,000 km depending on driving style and traffic. GTA stop-and-go is hard on clutches — smooth engagement and not resting your foot on the pedal extend life considerably.

Do you work on dual-clutch (DSG/PowerShift/DCT) transmissions?

Yes — clutch packs, mechatronic units, adaptations and fluid services. These transmissions need specialist knowledge and we have it.
