Mercedes-Benz Transmission Repair

722.9 valve body and conductor plate failures

The Mercedes 722.9 7G-Tronic has two famous weak points: the conductor plate (with its integrated speed sensors) and the valve body. When either fails you get harsh shifting, limp mode or no-shift conditions — and a dealer quote that assumes a new transmission. Both are repairable at component level for a fraction of that quote.

We service the full Mercedes range including 722.6 five-speeds in older models, 722.9 units across C/E/S-Class, ML/GL and Sprinter vans (a GTA fleet staple), and the newer 9G-Tronic. Canadian search demand for Mercedes transmission repair has grown tenfold in a year — the cars are here, and so is the expertise.

The known weak points

722.9 7G-Tronic

Conductor plate (Y3/8n4 speed sensor) failures, valve body wear, torque converter shudder and secondary pump issues on later variants.

722.6 5G-Tronic

Valve body and connector 'pilot bushing' leaks that contaminate the harness — a classic, inexpensive fix when caught early.

725.0 9G-Tronic

Newer 9-speed with software-sensitive shift complaints; fluid service and updates resolve most, hardware the rest.

Mercedes-Benz owners ask us

Mercedes quoted a full transmission — do I really need one?

Often not. Conductor plate and valve body failures mimic total failure but are component-level repairs. Our diagnosis tells you exactly which case you have, in writing.

Do you service Sprinter vans?

Yes — Sprinters are a core fleet specialty, including 722.9 rebuilds, fluid programs and driveline work. Ask about fleet priority scheduling.

How often should Mercedes transmission fluid be changed?

Every 60,000–80,000 km with the exact MB-spec fluid. Many 722.9 failures we see trace directly to fluid that was never changed.

Driving one of these? Get ahead of it.

A one-hour diagnostic now beats a four-figure surprise later — and the fee is credited toward any repair.
