Ford & Lincoln Transmission Repair

PowerShift DPS6, 10R80 10-speed and 6F35 failures

Ford has produced several of the most litigated transmissions of the modern era. The Focus and Fiesta PowerShift dual-clutch generated a national class action in Canada; the 10R80 ten-speed in the F-150 draws widespread complaints of harsh shifting and sudden failures; and the 6F35 in Escape and Fusion is a steady source of rebuild work at higher mileage.

We know these units intimately — the updated parts that fix the design weaknesses, the relearn procedures that restore drivability, and when a repair beats a rebuild. F-150s and work vans are a specialty of the shop.

The known weak points

PowerShift DPS6 dry dual-clutch

Shudder, clutch pack wear and TCM failures in Focus and Fiesta. Canadian class-action settlement provided compensation for many owners; the underlying wear pattern remains.

10R80 10-speed

Harsh 'clunk' engagements, gear hunting, and CDF drum / one-way clutch failures that can be sudden. Common in F-150, Mustang and Expedition.

6F35 6-speed

Torque converter shudder, valve body wear and overheating in Escape, Fusion and Edge — especially turbo/EcoBoost applications.

Ford & Lincoln owners ask us

My F-150 clunks into gear — is that the 10-speed problem?

Harsh engagement is the classic early 10R80 complaint. Sometimes a relearn and fluid service resolves it; mechanical wear in the drum or clutches needs real repair. A diagnostic with live data tells us which you have.

Is a PowerShift Focus worth fixing?

Depends on the car's condition and what has already been replaced. Sometimes yes — a clutch and TCM done properly can deliver years more service. We will give you a straight answer with the numbers.

Do you service Ford work trucks and vans?

Yes — F-Series, Transit and E-Series are core fleet work for us, including differentials and transfer cases.

Driving one of these? Get ahead of it.

A one-hour diagnostic now beats a four-figure surprise later — and the fee is credited toward any repair.
